Fox and Hen Together

This book is all about the relationship between Fox and Hen and Hen's egg. Hen is the momma, and she must fend for the family, and Fox must be a stay at home dad. At first she's apprehensive, but alas, embarks on a great journey to make sure her family stays safe and healthy. You'll have to read it to see the ending! There are no words in this book, so you can make of it whatever you want! That is part of the beauty of the story. Pick this one up soon!

Tea Party Success!

1st and 2nd Grade Logos Mobiles!

Mrs. Brunton's Logos class of 1st and 2nd graders studied Alexander Calder and his invention of the mobile! They learned about simple machines and came to the library for books. They picked out items from home and balanced them on the mobiles with mathematical equations! How cool!

Laura Ingalls Wilder is our lady of the month! She wrote the Little House on the Prarie Series and also has a songbook and a book of poetry! Check out her books and get a prize! She was born February 7, 1867, so I did her portrait in browns in watercolor!

Fancy Tea Party!!!!

Good News!

Because there is such a demand to get into the tea party, we've re-vamped it a bit! Now attendance is limited to 50! We've moved the location to the Bard Room and we have local area restaurants participating!

The Tin Lizzie Cafe is providing potato salad, Starbucks is providing the Tea, Olympian Candies is providing the mints, Richmond Baking Company is providing cookies, and we have yet to hear from a few others! Hurrah!

Racing to Read!

Look at what Mary and Dan Graves donated! Dan and his son made the car years ago from a book we had in the library! They gave a presentation on it, and since then it has lived at their house. Now, it's living in the library! You are allowed to sit in it with a caregiver helping you, but you cannot drive off!

Knitting Workshop!

Today we had the knitting workshop. 8 kids, 3 teachers (Ms. Denise Sammons, Ms. Celeste Badger, and Ms. Doris Ashbrook) and 2 parents all helping teach! Although there were some tears of frustration, everyone left with a smile, new knitting needles, and a started scarf! Here are some pictures! The first picture is Ms.Doris from Reference teaching the class, the second is of a busy table of knitters, and the third is of Mark Brunton, who turned out to be a whiz at knitting!

Pomelo Begins to Grow

Remember to come to storytimes with your little ones! Each week the theme, games, and craft changes! The storytimes are not only fun, but we try to focus on developing motor skills and social skills needed for kindergarten!

Storytime for Wigglers 0-2 years: Tuesdays at 10:30am
Storytime for Walkers 2-4 years: Wednesdays at 10:30am
Storytime for Big Kids 4-PreK: Thursdays at 10:30am
Storytime for School Kids K-3: Thursdays at 3:30pm

Don't miss out! And for those of you with 3-5th graders, we have a homework help session on Fridays from 3:30-5p.

Monthly Goodies!

If you come in and check out a J.R.R Tolkien book to read, you can pick a prize out of our treasure box! He was born on January 3, 1892, and died on September 2, 1973. He is famous for his Lord of the Rings series, but his book The Hobbit is in the children's section, along with The Children of Hurin, Mr.Bliss, and Roverendom. They are books that are for the older reader, but they could be read aloud to the family as well!

We also have our monthly book display set up with all of our Martin Luther King Jr. books for his day on January 16th! Also We have the second shelf full of books on snow and winter wonders! Yay! Come check out some books and learn some cool things!

The main character, Julian Calendar, is super duper ultra smart. I mean, the kind of smart that makes your brain ache to think about! He is 11 years old, but is so short he looks like he's 8. He hates his current school, and can never catch a break socially. Good news arrives when he learns that his family is moving and he'll have a chance to start over! Armed with books on how teenagers converse, he tries to be "normal" at his new school. Right when he thinks he's blown his chances on making friends for good, he gets a secret message and meets kids that are just like him! The trio has the best time together, and just when things seem too good to be true, a Creepy McCreeperson steals their inventions! You'll have to read the rest to see what happens next! You won't be able to put it down!
